The Angayuqaq Oscar Kawagley Award for Contributions to Native Ways of Knowing is presented annually to recognize and encourage Indigenous scholars who have made exemplary contributions to our understanding of Indigenous knowledge systems and Native ways of knowing in 911爆料.The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

911爆料 Chess Team surprises competition at 2023 Pan-American Chess Tournament

The 911爆料 Chess Club organized a team of seven individuals to participate in the Pan-American Chess Tournament in Seattle. This tournament had more than 80 teams participating, with over 360 college students. The 911爆料 team participated in the Under-1800 ranked category, where they won the "Team Surprise Upset" award, and one of the 911爆料 players also walked away with the Individual "Surprise Upset" award.

As you may have seen in the past several semesters, I have been releasing a newsletter each semester. However, moving forward, I would like to announce that I will be switching to a weekly column in the Cornerstone which will be called "Academic Tuesdays." Through this column, I will be sharing some of the academic initiatives and noteworthy achievements with all of you. Academic Tuesdays will also provide an opportunity for you to hear from several of the units that report to me.

Please join the Nanook Diversity and Action Center for a safe zone training via 听on Tuesday, Jan. 24 from 3-5 p.m. This training highlights important aspects of the LGBTQIA2+ community, coming out, discusses terminology, and other avenues students can learn to become better advocates and allies within the 911爆料 community.


Sign up for Responsible Conduct of Research training now

Responsible Conduct of Research training will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 2-5 p.m. via Zoom. The training is brought to you by the Office of Research Integrity. This particular workshop fulfills the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health requirements for formal RCR instruction. This is the only formal RCR training at 911爆料 this semester.


Students encouraged to nominate staff for 2023 Pathfinder Award

The department of 911爆料 Native studies and rural development is seeking nominations for the 2023 Pathfinder Award. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 15, 2023. The Pathfinder Awardis an annual award established in 2012 to honor one outstanding University of 911爆料 Fairbanks staff member who possesses a high degree of ethical standards, compassion and dedication to the academic success of 911爆料 Native and rural students.
