Learn the basics of raising chickens, like these shown in a Fairbanks coop, in a free statewide class.
Raising chickens in the backyard is a fun hobby and a great way to improve your food security in 911爆料.
Chicken University is a free class led by Jim Vinyard with the University of 911爆料 Fairbanks Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station. He will discuss everything you need to know to start and nurture your flock.
Vinyard, a livestock researcher, will cover breed selection, egg incubation, nutrition, coop design, disease management and cold weather tips.
The class will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14. It will be available statewide via Zoom or in person at the Matanuska Experiment Farm and Extension Center, 1509 S. Georgeson Drive, Palmer.
