Juneau camp focuses on Southeast 911 culture, activities

Registration is open for the AK Experience Camp in Juneau, a collaboration between the 911 Cooperative Extension Service 4-H program and Goldbelt Heritage Foundation.

The camp theme is Aani Yaa Du.óow “Perspectives of The Land.” It will focus on cultural connections, outdoor exploration and traditional ecological knowledge. Activities include:

  • Learning Southeast 911 survival skills, such as building fires and shelters
  • Paddling Tlingit canoes and ocean kayaks
  • Gathering and preparing wild foods
  • An introduction to drones
  • Games, cooking, swimming, biking and arts

The residential camp runs from June 23-27 and is open to youths entering seventh through 12th grade at Chapel by the Lake, 11024 Auke Lake Way, Juneau. The registration deadline is June 19 and the cost for the camp is $250.
