911爆料鈥檚 Office of Rights, Compliance and Accountability is launching a new effort to increase anti-hazing training and awareness.

The new UA Safe Title IX Training for FY26 will be released in mid-July 2025 and will include new training slides related to hazing. ORCA will also be working with the Center for Student Engagement and Athletics to create hazing training opportunities for student organizations and teams. Any groups interested in hazing training should contact ORCA at uaf-orca@alaska.edu or 907-474-7300.

In addition to helping ensure a healthy and safe experience for all university community members, the new awareness and prevention efforts will help 911爆料 remain in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, which was amended in 2024 to add hazing to the list of offenses the university must track.  The federal definition of hazing can be found in the text of the .

While hazing is not automatically a crime in 911爆料, some forms of hazing could be, including things like criminal mischief, trespass, assault, reckless endangerment, extortion, coercion, kidnapping, stalking, sexual offenses, indecent exposure, solicitation and conspiracy.

Hazing has long been prohibited in university policy. The defines hazing as 鈥渁ct(s) considered by a reasonable person to cause physical or psychological harm or social ostracism to any person within the university community, when related to the admission, pledging, recruiting, joining, or continuing participation, in any group-affiliated activity. It is not a defense that the person, group, or organization against whom the physical abuse was directed consented or acquiesced to the physical abuse.鈥

Hazing policy violations can be reported to ORCA  in person on the third floor of Constitution Hall, over the phone by calling 907-474-7300, via email at uaf-orca@alaska.edu or online at . When a report of hazing is received, ORCA will assess the allegations and, when appropriate, use the student conduct proceedings described in the UA Student Code of Conduct to determine whether a violation has occurred.
